BOUGHAZ

Al Boughaz ou Le détroit de Gibraltar, au sud de l'Espagne, au nord du Maroc, à l'est de l'océan atlantique, à l'ouest de la Méditerranée, sépare ces deux derniers. Il est large de 14,4 km et d'une profondeur d'environ 300 m. Dans l'Antiquité ce détroit était appelé « les Colonnes d'Hercule », mais il doit son nom de Gibraltar à une déformation de djebel Tarik d'après le général berbère Tariq ibn Ziyad qui en avril 711 franchit le détroit pour faire un raid contre l'Espagne wisigothique, première incursion musulmane dans la péninsule ibérique.

The Islamic age in Iberia or Spain is considered to be the Golden Age on the region, although nowadays this is not mentioned by western and European historicians and authors. The Moorish period in Spain has been the age of religious tolerance between all believers of all three riligions of the Book; Christianity, Judaism, and Islam; under the rule of Muslims, who, when they were persecuted by the Northen monarchy and by christians and had to flee Andalusia, have escorted their Juish nieghbours to flee with them to the Maghreb. This bright page of Islamic history in Andalusia is almost absent in the Western accounts of the world's civilisation. WHY?
